Kembali Viral Isu Palestina Dihapus dari Apple dan Google Maps, Ini Fakta Sebenarnya

PIKIRAN RAKYAT – Baru-baru ini, kembali viral unggahan yang menyatakan wilayah Palestina hilang dari Google dan Apple Maps.

Para pengguna berbagi tangkapan layar Google Maps yang menunjukkan garis besar peta dengan label untuk ‘Tepi Barat dan Jalur Gaza.

“Google dan Apple telah secara resmi menghapus Palestina dari World Maps. Hari ini Palestina dihapus dari peta besok Palestina akan dihapus dari dunia,” tulis pengguna Twitter @_graveyardd.

Unggahan viral itu langsung mengundang amarah warganet. Mereka bertanya-tanya akan penyebab tak adanya Palestina di Apple dan Google Maps.

Apalagi, unggahan itu viral saat kabar Presiden Israel Benjamin Netanyahu berencana untuk mencaplok Tepi Barat.

Para netizen mengkritik rencana tersebut. Banyak negara juga telah menyebut rencana Netanyuhu tersebut sebagai bentuk pelanggaran hak asasi manusia.

Isu menghilangnya wilayah Palestina ini juga sempat viral di tahun 2016, salah satunya diposting oleh pengguna Twitter @talbiaakbar.

Saat itu Google menjawab dengan mengatakan bahwa nama Palestina memang tidak pernah ada di Google Maps, seperti dilaporkan ArabNews.

“Tidak pernah ada label ‘Palestina’ pada Google Maps, tetapi kami memang mendapati ada bug yang menghilangkan label ‘Tepi Barat’ dan ‘Jalur Gaza’. Kami bekerja dengan segera agar label-label ini kembali ke area itu,” demikian keterangan Google pada Arab News, seperti dikutip Pikiran-rakyat.com.

Di tahun 2016 juga pernah ada petisi di Change.org dengan judul ‘Google: Put Palestine On Your Maps!’ yang mendesak Google memasukkan Palestina di peta. Saat itu petisi tersebut ditandatangani ratusan ribu pendukung.

Dikutip Pikiran-rakyat.com dari The Guardian, ada proyek Google di tahun 2014 yang disebut Disputed Territories yang menjelaskan Google Maps berupaya untuk tidak terlibat dalam perselisihan geografis dan masalah identitas sosial.

Misalnya pengguna di Rusia melihat garis batas yang solid di sekitar Rusia dan Crimea. Di luar Rusia, Crimea dikelilingi oleh garis putus-putus, menunjukkannya sebagai wilayah yang diduduki.***
